Therapy We Provide
Counseling for relationship issues is more common than you think, and in a dream world, all couples or relationships would indulge in some kind of relationship therapy.
Couples counseling is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on addressing and reducing problems to sooth a relationship.
Do I have to see a therapist with my partner?
Definitely not. If problems are arising within the relationship, they might only be stemming from your own inner-pain. In this case, seeing a counselor one-on-one can bring clarity to the root issue and help determine whether or not you need to bring your partner in for coupled counseling. In many cases, it will bring the relationship more benefit to attend sessions together, but this does not have to be decided right away.
What are relationship counseling services?
Counseling services for relationships can be sued to address many issues, including the following:
- Intimacy or sexual difficulties
- Understanding of other person/parties in relationship
- Substance abuse in one or both parties
- Premarital counseling for addressing differences before marriage
- Communication problems
- Anger, past or present
- Domestic abuse or violence
- Disagreements over raising and disciplining children
During relationship counseling, a therapist will work with you and your partner on communicating openly and honestly, discussing differences with a buffer in between you and finding new ways to approach and solve problems.
If you have or have had concerns about your partner needing additional individual counseling, attending couples therapy can be a great way for your partner to test the counseling waters and receive a professional’s suggestion to seek additional help.
Relationships are not easy, and there is no weakness in opting for a professional’s oversight and care to make your relationship(s) as strong as possible. To learn more about counseling services and sessions for couples, reach out to Strategic Mental Health.
