What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is a short-term therapy used in psychotherapy that uses practiced techniques to change thinking and behavioral patterns that contribute to how a person feels.

CBT focuses on a person’s thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes toward or about a particular subject or situation. The person’s thoughts contribute to the way a person feels and behaves, so by changing the thought patterns from negative to positive, the person undergoing CBT can feel better, typically inducing better behavior, too.

What is CBT therapy used for?

CBT is a short-term treatment that can be used to address a life-long problem or to removed negative feelings associated with a recent situation. Although it can be used to treat a range of issues, the following are the most common:

  • Sleeping difficulties
  • Drug and alcohol abuse
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Relationship problems
What does cognitive behavior treatment include?

CBT spans over five to ten months with 1/week sessions that run for about abhor or less. A client works one on one with a therapist to analyze, identify and relate the patterns that are cause for a problem in his or her life.
